CO-ED SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE

BY LAWS -2011- Revised May 15, 2011

1.        Maximum number of players on a team is 25

2.        Number of males in the lineup cannot exceed 6 (when using a EH and DH the 7-5 rule applies).Only 6 males can play defense. 6 males, 4 females are required to begin the game. See #3 for exceptions. (6-3 rule)

3.        Females may be borrowed from another team if necessary to begin the game in order to avoid a forfeit.. (3 needed) ( maximum pick up is 2) females can play on more than one team ONLY when they are needed to avoid a forfeit.  When a game is started with 6 males and 3 females, an out WILL NOT BE recorded in the in the batting order. Two new balls will be used for each game.   

4.        The game will consist of 7 innings. An official game will be 5 complete innings .4 ½ innings if home team is leading.

5.        Games will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays to accommodate teams..(Wed, Thurs optional)

6.        A 12 run rule will be in effect after 5 complete innings. 20 run rule after 4 innings.

7.        One umpire will be used for each game.

8.        No Holiday weekend games will be played during the season. Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

9.        Uniform rule- identical shirts only. No Metal spikes are allowed.

10.     Maximum number of teams is 25

11.     Number of games played during the season will not be less than 15.. Rained out and canceled games will be made up as scheduling permits.

12.     Trophies and or Photo plaques will be awarded to the Division Winners and Play off winners.

13.     The season will normally begin the first Monday in June (or the Tuesday after Memorial Day in May) of each year depending on the # of teams.

14.     A team may play a game with 9 players but no more than 6 can be males. Three (3) females must be in the line up to start the game. If a team only has 10 players and starts 10 players and one is ejected, the game is over. If the 10th player has to leave the game as a result of an injury, you may complete the game with 9 players. 2 injuries-8 pla.

15.     WALK RULE: Use ASA rule in 2007-A walk to a male batter will result in a two base award. The next batter(a female)will bat. EXCEPTION: with two outs, the female batter has the option to walk or bat.

16.     Strike Rule: 2009-The league adopted the 1 ball 1 strike count on the batter. If the ball hits any portion of Home Plate and the ball has a minimum arc of 6 feet and maximum of 12 feet( when it leaves the pitchers hand)it will be called a strike.

17.     The league will provide scorebooks.

18.     An extra hitter and Designated hitter may be used. 5 females and 7 males. 7 males only when 5 females in lineup.

19.     Any batting order may be used as long as 2 males do not hit back to back during the first 8 spots in the batting order.10 spots when using 7 males and 5 females.

20.     Male players must play in at least 6 games to be eligible for playoffs. (maybe adjusted for Job transfers & injuries)

21.     Weather permitting; Playoffs will start the second week in August.

22.     The home run rule is voted each year. The current number allowed is 4-American Division 3- National Division. 2-C Division.  Inter-division home runs allowed is the lower number. If a 4th division the number is ONE

23.     Three females are required to start a game. Two females (maximum) may be borrowed from another team to start the game. Should a female be injured during the game, and unable to play, the team may finish the game with two females. SEASON RULES WILL APPLY FOR ALL PLAYOFF GAMES.

24.     Re-Entry (per ASA rules) is allowed at any time. Courtesy Runners: The runner will be the person who made the last out. Male runs for male and female for female. Only ONE courtesy runner is allowed per inning .The batting order can never be changed.

25.     If there is a question regarding a rule not covered by the league rules and by-laws then the ASA rule will be applied.

26. Any person playing in a game without signing the TEAM ROSTER/Hold harmless agreement -game will result in a forfeit. .

28.   Foul ball on a two strike pitch the batter is out.  New in 2010

29.   An eligible player must be 18 years of age as of June 1st of the playing year.

        30.   All games are FLIP Games.(except playoffs-best record is home team for games one and three)

31.   Please check the OFFICIAL PLAYING SCHEDULE on the bulletin board for changes .

32.   Teams may pick up one male player only to avoid a forfeit. The player must be approved by the opposing manager.

33.    Changing the rules and bylaws requires 2/3rds vote of the team managers.

34.    Any team that plays in a game without paying the entry fees in full will result in a forfeit.

35.    On a ball hit to the outfield by a female, the female CAN NOT  be thrown out at first base.

36.    When a female is at bat, all 4 FOUR infielders must be AT LEAST ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE base line.

         Violation, the umpire will call a ball on the batter  5 infielders ARE NOT  allowed. Outfielders should play no closer                

.        than 30’ from the bases.

37.    Managers are required to check the score with the home plate umpire every ½ inning of play.

38.    Bat Rule: Bats not on the illegal ASA list that are used in the league may be added to the ASa LIST by majority vote           .        of the teams in the effected division.
